Microsoft has confirmed a bug in Windows 11 version 24H2 that affects Auto HDR and audio output on PCs.
Microsoft has placed a temporary update block on systems “from one manufacturer” due to the issue. The bug was observed on computers with Dirac Audio and the cridspapo.dll file (audio processing software for improving clarity). It caused the systems to no longer output audio to built-in speakers, Bluetooth speakers, headsets, and other audio devices.
Microsoft is not saying which systems are affected by the issue. The only way to find out is to go to Windows Update and check for available updates. Affected users will see a message about it.
There are currently no workarounds to fix the bug. Microsoft is waiting for a driver update. Once it is available, it will be sent to Windows Update and remove the block.
Another issue is related to Auto HDR, a system feature that converts SDR content to HDR on compatible hardware for improved visuals. The bug causes games to display incorrect colors or freeze gameplay.
Microsoft has not specified which device configurations or games are affected by this bug. The only workaround is to disable Auto HDR. Microsoft has applied a compatibility block to all Windows 11 systems with this feature.
