Google’s Files app has introduced a new feature in partnership with Gemini that lets users ask questions about open PDFs.
As reported by Android Police, an update to the Files by Google app now lets users interact with files through Gemini. However, only advanced Gemini subscribers with premium features have access to the feature, as reported by Mishaal Rahman on Friday.
With the feature, when you open a PDF in the Files app and invoke Gemini, an “Ask About This PDF” button will appear. Tapping it will let you ask questions about the file’s contents, similar to how ChatGPT does with PDFs. The screen-enabled feature was first unveiled by Google at its I/O developer conference in May.
In addition to working with PDFs, Gemini offers contextual capabilities for asking questions about web pages and YouTube videos. If the file or app doesn’t support Gemini’s contextual integration, the assistant will suggest using a screenshot to answer questions by activating the “Ask About This Screen” feature.
